I just finished watching all 4 seasons of Breaking Bad during the past two weeks of my winter break. And after finally seeing the conclusion to season 4 and being brought up to date with the rest of the world, all I can say is : wow. The ending is near perfect, certainly more satisfying than any other drama on television right now (I’m looking at you Dexter). I mean, sure, there a few loose ends to tie up and I don’t think that this finale will be the ultimate benefactor to freeing Walt - scratch that, Heisenberg - from his crystal meth duties, but what a way to end the season. I almost wish that they had stopped at season 4 - something I thought I’d never say because I’m a fan of TV shows renewing each season if they are of this caliber.
The best way to describe to Breaking Bad would be to compare it to a game of chess. Each move in the show is carefully thought out and contains the appropriate repercussions to every action performed. They pretty much think of everything so that when you go “Wait a minute… wouldn’t that get them caught?” or “Won’t he/she find out about this?”, the writers have already got you covered. Each character is so well developed and believable that it’s almost hard to believe that you’re watching a TV show at some points. I actually feel for the characters and what they’re going through, and find myself asking if I could do some of the actions required if I were in their shoes (probably not).
The show truly is a masterpiece. While the fourth season of Dexter has a special place in my heart as the best season of any drama television series, I think I’m gonna have to rank this one just above the aforementioned. Incredible.
